Google Maps validation
Updated over 2 weeks ago

Google Maps validation compares the customer's address with the Google Maps address information. This helps to detect errors in the address and boosts efficiency and reliability for Shopify merchants while reducing costs through shipping errors.

By integrating the Google Maps validation you will get several benefits

  1. Improved Accuracy: Ensures addresses are correctly formatted and exist on Google Maps, resulting in the reduction of shipping errors.

  2. Enhanced User Experience: Auto-suggests valid addresses, streamlining the checkout process for customers.

  3. Cost Reduction: Minimizes delivery failures and the associated costs due to incorrect or incomplete addresses.

  4. Global Coverage: The access to Google's comprehensive address database ensures international accuracy.

  5. Real-Time Validation: Validates addresses as they are entered, improving data quality.

How does it exactly work?

  1. The customer enters an address.

  2. The app sends the address to the Google Maps API.

  3. The API validates and standardizes the address: In it's response, the Address Validation API returns the full address specified by the API or indicates where information is missing.

  4. The customer corrects or confirms the recommended address.

Some of the most common cases

  1. Spelling mistake regarding the Street

  2. Spelling mistake regarding the City

  3. Typo in Postal Code

  4. House number missing

* Please note that the address will be automatically updated on the order overview page. You can also see the updated address when you refresh the success page that appears after the check out.
